Today Manny Pacquiao defeated (more like a beating) Oscar dela Hoya in their much promoted Dream Match. This victory cemented his status as one of the greatest boxers of our time. This victory will also perhaps mark one of the greatest heights of Pinoy pride.
I can imagine it already, Filipinos like myself walking around chins up, noses pointed high, and with boisterous laughter declare to the world how great we are as shown by our compatriot Manny. Notwithstanding the fact that it is a fallacy to think that one boxer's success reflects the ability of a whole -- and that if the thinking taken to a broader degree disenfranchises all those other Pinoy losers who never achieved any form of success.
But who cares. Today we Filipinos can stand tall and proud--even if tomorrow we go back to our backstabbing, swindling, apathetic, crab-mentality ways.
